Poetry Speaks

I'm really enjoying my grad classes this quarter, and after spending my fall semester in a high school experiencing the wonders of student teaching, I am appreciating my own learning experiences and being in an academic community again.  Sometimes, though, especially when I hear other teachers talking about their classrooms and the activities they are doing, I am eager to get in front of a classroom of my own.  I will soon find out whether I was accepted to be a TA in the English program, but until then I am building my "teaching file" of all the activities I want to do when I have my own English class.

I would love to incorporate this new book, Poetry Speaks: who I am, featured today on NPR.org.  It includes modern poetry that appeals to teenage kids, while simultaneously presenting them with more "classical" poetry.  It even comes with a CD of poets reading their poems.  Seeing books like this really gets me excited about teaching, and I thought I would share it with my fellow teacher friends!  Have fun in the classroom and I hope to be joining you soon!
